Razlog – All About Razlog In One Place

Razlog is a small town in the southwestern region of Bulgaria, located between three mountains and surrounded by magnificent views. There is also a fairly new church in Razlog called Saint Annuciation which was built in 1939, this magnificent church is not only impressive for the construction but also for the various murals inside making it a truly fascinating place to visit.

Razlog has two mountains Rila and Pirin. This is usually the place where tourists head to first, to get a real feel for the area. Tourists can take a steady stroll along the mountain paths to get a better view of what this place has to offer. Sightseers tend to start at the Saddle Predela which is located 12 kilometres from the Town.

The typical cultural and historical aspects of Razlog is very famous for its preserved monuments of the Thracian culture. Items of interest that have been found in the area, include marble slabs dated back to the III century B.C. Remains of castles, monasteries and churches have also been found from a later date. The middle ages have also proven to be successful at uncovering some history, were they found the remains of monastery St. Iliya. These are typical of the early Byzantine Christianity from the IV-VI century along with the fortress Callao.

On January 1st in Razlog one of the most extraordinary events takes place called Mummers Procession. There is a historical museum located in Parapunovata house, which exposes the life of the local people during the renaissance.

The city of Razlog also has many educational hiking routes which once followed will take you to the natural and historical sites which are protected. These areas include Pears, East areas, Callao, Betolovoto (which is in Pirin), mountains and stolovatets.

In the surrounding areas of Razlog there are many landmarks that are a must see for tourists, including archaeological remains and many, many picturesque landmarks that cannot be missed by any tourists who visit the area.
